 "Pistol Shot" (Italian: "Un colpo di pistola") is the first film directed by Renato Castellani. It was adapted from 
 
the short story "The Shot" (The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin 1831) by Alexander Pushkin and was 
 
presented at the 1942 Venice Film Festival.

The story is told to Gerardo de Valmont (Renato Cialente) by colonel Andrea Anickoff (Fosco Giachetti), 
 
 
who in the early days of his military career was stationed at a country outpost. Andrea challenged his best 
 
friend, Sergio Drutzky (Antonio Centa), to a duel when he found him courting the young woman, Mascia 
 
(Assia Noris), he, too, was in love with. Sergio had obtained the privilege to shoot first, but could not bring 
 
himself to kill his friend. He fired only after taking the bullet out of his pistol and when came Andrea's turn to 
 
fire, Sergio was eating cherries waiting for his opponent to shoot. So Andrea decided that he would not 
 
shoot, but rather asked to postpone the duel..
