A musical portrait of composer/singer/dancer George M. Cohan. From his early days as a child-star in his family's vaudeville show up to the time of his comeback at which he received a medal from the president for his special contributions to the US, this is the life- story of George M. Cohan, who produced, directed, wrote and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed his famous songs.

Added to the National Film Registry in 1993. #100 on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list. "The Yankee Doodle Boy" is #71 on AFI's 100 Top Movie Songs of All Time, but the film's Score also includes "Give My Regards to Broadway", "Over There", and "You're a Grand Old Flag" making it required viewing and an outstanding Fourth of July film! Cagney's oft repeated line "My mother thanks you. My father thanks you. My sister thanks you. And I thank you." is #97 on AFI's 100 Greatest Movie Quotes list. #88 on AFI's 100 Most Inspiring Movies list. #18 on AFI's 25 Greatest Movie Musicals list.

James Cagney ("White Heat," "Angels With Dirty Faces") danced and sang his way to a well-deserved Academy Award for his outstanding portrayal of vaudeville composer and performer George M. Cohan in this Oscar-nominated biography. Recently selected as one of the top American films of all time by the prestigious American Film Institute and directed by Academy Award-winner Michael Curtiz ("Casablanca"), this joyous musical tribute to one of America's most popular entertainers was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Director, and Writing and won for Best Score and Best Sound. Oscar-winner Walter Huston ("The Treasure of the Sierra Madre") received his third Oscar-nomination as Cohan's show business father.
